As part of the efforts for raising awareness about the importance of space science, technology and applications, officials from the National Space Science Agency (NSSA) held an executive meeting with the Ministry of Education (Curriculum Directorate) on 12th April 2018.

The purpose of the meeting was to introduce the NSSA and its initiatives and highlight the importance of education in raising awareness in space science, technology and applications.

Initially, and as a first step, the MOE was asked to identify subjects related to space science, technology and applications that are in the Kingdom’s national curriculum offered to different age groups. Subjects can be found here.

Following that, at a later stage NSSA in cooperation with relevant authorities intends jointly to review and improve existing content to introduce concepts of remote sensing, satellites and their applications.

Dr Al Aseeri, NSSA CEO commented “NSSA aims to organize and participate in local public events targeting youth to promote space science, technology and applications in the Kingdom. Additionally, our team will condict school fields visits, during which we intend to distribute a number of booklets to students and play short films and presentations on different space related subjects.”

NSSA in coordination with the MOE will organize competitions targeting different age groups that will be announced on NSSA public website (youth platform).

Dr Al Aseeri concluded “We cannot do it alone. Raising awareness starts in schools, therefore we believe in the role of the Ministry of Education as an important stakeholder at this stage”.
